Missing Radio Station in iTunes 9 - Keep Yours

Many iTunes users who have taken the leap of faith and have upgraded to iTunes 9, may have noticed that many of their favorite radio stations are now not listed...missing...unaccounted for. Certain well-loved genres have been nixxed, such as the "Ambiant" category.

I'm not sure of the reason behind this decision by Apple, but if you have not upgraded there are a few things to try before you upgrade, in order to save those links. Again, these must be done BEFORE you upgrade.

First, save your favorite radio stations in a new playlist. Playlists are retained in upgrades so you should be able to see your favoriite stations in the playlist after the upgrade.

Just in case that won't work, it is always a good idea to find out if the internet radio station has a website. If it does, you can go on the website and probably access a link on the site which should open in iTunes. If it does open in iTunes, save it in a playlist for future access. If not, you can at least enjoy the programming via another application.

At the very least, select the station in the old version of iTunes and 'Get Info.' You should see the web address for the stream. Copy and save for future reference and access. In iTunes 9 go to the 'Advance' menu tab and then 'Open Audio Stream.' Enter the web address and you should be on your way.

Nokia Wants a Bite Out of Apple

Nokia is upset. As the largest maker of smartphones in the world, they are pretty uncomfortable that they haven't had a product on the market that can measure up to Apple's iPhone. So they now pledge to step up their game in developing a new operating system coupled with new devices.

I'm not sure how this will work out for Nokia, if they aren't already in the race amongst Apple, Blackberry and Google. Good luck playing catch-up.

REVIEW: Cordgo

I've been using the Cordgo "wire management system" for the last few weeks. I'd always wanted to have some type of device which I could use to store my iPod earpiece in while not in use, as I've become tired of puliing a tangled white clump from my pocket or bag. I'd seen similar storage devices before used with other earpieces, but could not recall ever seeing one made w/ the iPod in mind. I had also not noticed one which could be used WHILE listening to your tunes.

At first glance it looks a little thick & bulky, but the built-in belt clip helps keep the bulk out of the way & hopefully close to your iPod (or other device). Reading the directions for the first time, and seeing the retail price (more about that in a minute) I must admit that I had my doubts about this working for me, But with only a LITTLE time I was well on my way to keeping my earpiece wire neat, contained & accessible.

The Cordgo website (www.cordgo.com) provides detailed visual instructions on how to use it. It stores your entire earbud wire when you aren't listening to yourdevice and, with a little adjustment, stores the excess wire while you listen.

I should say that if the Corgo was created with the iPod in mind, it was done so in color only, as it can work with a variety of different cords with varying thickness.

My only issue is with the plastic belt clip which can sit a little loose at times on your belt (which could be a problem if not "anchored" onto your device). I'm sure a metal clip or a more flexible piece of plastic would be better, but I'm sure it would reflect in the bottom line price for this efficient gizmo.
Overall, this is a very necessary device at an extremely low cost.

DigitialLife Expo at Javits Center, NYC

I had the opportunity to attend the DigitalLife tech show at the Javits Center in New York City last weekend. Cool, productive, interesting, and entertaining products were all on hand. In the coming days, I will give somewhat of a rundown on some of the products and companies that were present and promoting themselves. From ATI to ZoneAlarm.

iPhone "validated"

According to the British tech website Pocket-lint, the longtime rumoured Apple iPhone my be released as early as January 2007. The website cites a report from an analyst saying that "Apple will launch not just one, but two mobile phones a [sic] soon as January. One will be a slim mobile based on the iPod, while the other will be a smartphone; one will also include Wi-Fi."

These claims are said to be supported by various trademarks sought by Apple for "handheld and mobile digital electronic devices for the sending and receiving of telephone calls, faxes, electronic mail, and other digital data; MP3 and other digital format audio players."

Digital Life Expo at the Jacob Javitz convention center in New York City is definitely on point as a tech show. The developing technologies showcased from some the biggest companies in technology to some of the smaller start-ups really caught my eye. One of the most popular concepts seen was that of multimedia content to your home television over existing cable/dsl lines.
As I noted yesterday, Palm introduced a new product at a 1 p.m. press conference. Behold the Treo 680! Heralded as an "entry-level" smartphone for first-time PDA owners this device brings style and appeal to what was typically known as a business workhorse.
With support for Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDFs and a . The 680 coming with a whopping 64 MB of RAM, improved addressing, new contoured shape (minus the protruding antenna) and an overall new phone application, makes the 680 a step above the old Treo 650. A step above the 650 because that is the last GSM model of the Treo to reference. Rumors indicate a GSM, Palm OS version of the Treo 750 to arrive in the US INearly 2007...or sooner....or later. This should share the same shape of the 680 and 750v and have the ability to utilize as a modem via bluetooth. The 680 may not allow this.

The Giant (AOL) Wakes Up.

In an e-mail to subscribers on Thursday, August 3, AOL's Chairman and CEO announced that [play horns and fanfare now] AOL will now offer its "software, e-mail, and other compelling AOL features" FREE to anyone that has an internet connection [more].

This should be great news to the many that have maintained a paid account with AOL in the midst of the many free and less expensive options for internet all in an effort to hold on their e-mail addresses that they've probably had since that days when AOL software came on 3.5" floppy disks.

With so many people choosing broadband and other people choosing free dial-up ISPs (ex. www.metconnect.com) its surprising that AOL has waited so long before making this change --possibly trying to milk their faithful customers for as long as possible. But finally, with so many other companies offering the same services and content for free, AOL has a board meeting, runs a few reports and conducts a few surveys to determine that you can't compete with FREE. Great job AOL!!

So if you've still been hanging on to your AOL e-mail address (hopefully you've long since removed their suspect software from your computer and are acessing through webmail - http://webmail.aol.com) make sure you make that call to AOL and cancel your provider account with them as soon as you can.
